LUBOMIR GOSPODINOV – Saxes, Clarinet
Lubomir Gospodinov was born on 9 Maj 1968 in Sofia. At 9 years of age he started playing a clarinet. He received his music education at Lyubomir Pipkov High School, then graduated from the Music Academy "Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, in the class of Professor Sava Dimitrov. Since 1991 he has been living and working in Austria, where he continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna under Professor Peter Schmidl, where he received a baccalaureate degree and a pedagogical profile of jazz saxophone by Prof. Martin Fuss. Lubomir Gospodinov’s unique mastery of music writing and performance incorporates elements of classical, jazz and traditional music in a remarkable fusion of styles.
In 2013 his composition "Chicken Dance" (performed with his group named Trio Klock) won the 4th place at the New York Jazz Competition.
In the latest edition of "All about Jazz" (February 2015) Michael Bailey writes about Gospodinov, “the tone of his saxophone reminds of Wayne Shorter”.
In another review Harald Justin ("Concerto" , 2015) pays a special attention to "the odd beats of Gospodinov, which are kindled by the saxophone fire of his improvisation".
Together with his teaching activities at the Viennese Conservatoires Vienna and Prainer , Gospodinov is also engaged in performance persuits of various kinds – from individuals musicians and singers, to Big Bands and Classical Orchestras.
He tourt in North and South America, Europe and Asia. He’s also made a significant amount of recordings as a composer and musician and is involved in theatrical performances and films as composer and instrumentalist. Some of his latest projects - Devet, Trio Klock, Errol Rackipov Band, Trio Gatanka include partnership with musicians such as Jorge Pardo, Isaac Turienzo, Tony Lakatos, Theodosii Spassov, Errol Rackipov, Martin Bejerano, Harry Stoyka, Jelena Krstic and many other.
